Claire Ellis, B.F.A.

Claire was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario where she found her passion for dance at an early age. She received training at Greta Leeming Studio, Canada's National Ballet School, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and ProArteDanza's Summer Intensive Program. Twice during her teenage years, Claire was selected to perform Fernand Nault's Nutcracker with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. She was also invited by the Royal Academy of Dance to perform at the Academy's 85th Anniversary Gala in Toronto. In 2006, Claire won American Dance Awards Top 10 Senior Female Dancers in New York City and received a scholarship for the highest score in the ballet audition class out of over sixty contestants. In 2008, Claire was a semi-finalist at the Genee International Ballet Competition in Toronto, and had the opportunity work with world-renowned choreographer Sabrina Matthews on a brand new solo work, monas.

In June 2011, Claire graduated from Ryerson University receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Performance Dance. She was awarded highest Grade Point Average several years running and the 2008 Dance Fund Award for academic proficiency and passion in dance. During her time at Ryerson, she performed in many shows and choreographed several dance works including her first full-length premiere for the New Voices Festival. Claire has been fortunate to work with numerous professionals in the dance industry including; Nadia Potts, Karen Duplisea, Vicki St. Denys, Alan and Karen Kaeja, Matjash Mrozewski, Kenny Pearl, Lacey Smith, Roberto Campanella, Robert Glumbek, Linda Garneau, Tanya Evidente, Louis Laberge-Cote and Evelyn Hart.

In addition to her dance studies, Claire has taken courses in anatomy and nutrition for dancers, musical theatre, and choreography.

She has taught and choreographed for students of all levels and ages at Greta Leeming Studio of Dance, Ryerson's Recreation and Athletics Centre, and Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School.

She holds her Advanced 2 with Distinction and Grade 8 Award from the Royal Academy of Dance and her A.D.A.P.T. Advanced Jazz.
